Environmental impact data for IT equipment: a comparative analysis
Understanding the environmental footprint of an IT infrastructure is essential for implementing a sustainable digital strategy. However, this footprint is based on impact data, which can vary depending on the source.
While ‘generic’ databases (Base Empreinte® ADEME, NegaOctet, etc.) come with documentation—some more detailed than others—that makes it possible to compare methodologies, the same cannot be said for the ‘Product Carbon Footprint’ (PCF) information sheets published by equipment manufacturers.
R&D teams at Aguaro and Résilio Database compared the environmental impact information for around twenty laptop models from two market leaders, Dell and HP, provided by these PCFs, with the values estimated by Resilio using a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology.
The purpose? To reveal any discrepancies and analyse the reasons behind them.
